In 2024 the Italian employment rate of mothers aged 25-54 was 62.3%, against 91.5% for fathers: a gap of almost 30 points. Italy's gender employment gap (19.4%) is nearly double the EU average (10.0%).

Italy's Labour Inspectorate validated 60,756 resignations from new parents in 2024: 69.5% (42,237) were filed by mothers.

In Italy 37.3% of working mothers aged 25-54 work part-time, against only 4.8% of fathers: female part-time is nearly five times the male rate.
